About us

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website.

Colchester Shotokan Karate Club was formed in 1984 and is one of the longest-standing clubs in the area. As our name suggests, the style of karate we practice is called Shotokan, which is the most widely practiced style of karate worldwide. We are affiliated to the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB), one of the world's leading Shotokan associations.

The Club is run by a group of experienced Instructors, all of whom are 2nd Dan or 3rd Dan Black Belts.

Whilst we are a family-oriented club, and have many parents and children training alongside each other, we consider the standard of karate we practice to be high, evidenced by the track record of our members in Black Belt gradings and in competitions.

We are a not-for-profit club, and a registered Community Amateur Sports Club, and so any income received remains within the Club for the benefit of its members, including the provision of subsidized courses with guest Instructors. Our fees are therefore very reasonable.

New members are always welcome, and we particularly welcome families. We also welcome visitors from other clubs to our normal sessions and our courses, irrespective of association. Please feel free to call or visit one our training sessions for further information.
